World-renowned Astrophysicist to visit Madison, MS
Alex Filippenko
World-renowned astrophysicist Alex Filippenko will visit Saint Joseph Catholic School, Madison, MS on January 26 – 27th to talk about the universe, total solar eclipses and the revolutionary astrophysical research to which he contributed. Filippenko, a University of California at Berkeley professor, received the 2004 Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization and was part of two teams that won the 2011 Nobel prize for physics. “I want to show students how exciting and important it is to pursue scientific research,” Filippenko said. “I want to encourage them to ask questions, to be inquisitive, to explore. Learning is a lifelong experience. It doesn’t end in the classroom.”
Sheldon Laboratory Systems will be hosting a reception for Dr. Filippenko on Thursday January 26th from 5:00-6:00pm in the St. Joseph Catholic School Fine Arts Building, Madison, MS.
